Présentation: PAO et AOR

La province e jésuite de l'Afrique de l'Ouest (PAO) comprend quatorze pays : le Bénin, le Burkina Faso, le Cameroun, la Centrafrique, le Congo Brazza, la Côte d'Ivoire, le Gabon, la Guinée Conakry, le Mali, la Mauritanie, le Niger, le Sénégal, le Tchad et le Togo. Elle a pour provincial le révérend Père Hyacinthe LOUA, sj, et compte 28 communautés ou résidences réparties en 10 pays. Les jésuites qui y travaillent s'investissent dans divers apostolats tels que la pastorale, l'éducation, les exercices spirituels, la formation des nôtres, l'apostolat social.

Dans la PAO, l'effectif total de membres inscrits à la date du 17 novembre 2016 est de 275: 139 prêtres dont 56 scolastiques dans l'attente du Troisième An, 11 ayant fait le Troisième An et en attente des derniers vœux ; 127 scolastiques approuvés et 09 frères

La province Jésuite de l'Afrique de l'Est (AOR)

L'histoire des Jésuites en Afrique de l'Est remonte en 1553, quand Saint Ignace envoya 15 jésuites en Ethiopie parlà créant la première mission Jésuite en Afrique. Leur séjour était bref et c'est jusqu'en 1945, quand un groupe de jésuites canadiens retournèrent en Ethiopie pour y fonder et enseigner dans la première université d'Addis-Abeba. A partir des années 1960-70, des jésuites provenant du Malte, Karnataka, Ranch, Bombay Goa-Puna (Inde), de l'Angleterre, et des USA établirent leurs missions dans cette partie du con- tinent.

En 1976, le père Arrupe créa la région de l'Afrique de l'Est et dix ans après, en 1986, elle deviendra une province. Pour le moment, la province est composée de six pays dont la Tanzanie, l'Ouganda, le Kenya, le Soudan, le Soudan du Sud et l'Ethiopie. Elle compte 196 jésuites et 21 communautés travaillant dans les collèges, paroisses, centres spirituels, dans l'apostolat social, et un grand nombre en formation. Le provincial actuel, le père Joseph Aduor Afulo dit que, "Our role as Jesuits of Eastern Africa involves promoting the fullness of life as the family of God in Africa" notre tâche est de promouvoir la plénitude de la vie comme une famille de Dieu en Afrique.
