Fr. Azétsop in Service of the Universal Church

On 12 April 2017, Pope Francis appointed Jesuit Father Jacquineau Azétsop, Professor and Dean of the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, as consulter to the Vatican's Secretariat for Communications. The appointments were released in a communique from the Holy See Press Office.

In an interview last week the JESAM President, Fr. Orobator, S.J, congratulated Fr. Azetsop and highlighted the importance of Jesuits from Africa serving the world-church with their skills and expertise.

It must be said that the Holy See's Communication Secretariat is a mission for and within the Church to respond to the "current context of communication". In the Apostolic Letter in the form of Motu Proprio, which institutes this dicastery, the Holy Father specifies:

"The current context of communication, characterized by the presence and development of digital media, through the factors of convergence and interactivity, requires revising the information system of the Holy See and leading to a reorganization which, while valorizing what has been developed throughout history within the communication sector of the Apostolic See, is resolutely working towards integration and unitary management.

It is therefore to this noble task at the service of the image of the Church that our Companion is now called to collaborate.

Congratulations Fr. Jacquineau Azétsop, S.J and fruitful service to the Universal Church!
